Oh dear. Here’s another mediocre functional bar from Weider. It looks like that company can’t stop surprising us. And polluting THAT legendary name.
It’s hard to ignore this is another bar in our reviews that have a problem with its identity. Try to find what kind of bar it is straight away, by looking at its package. Is it a protein bar? With only 13% of protein, it doesn’t seem to be this. Any other signs of its purpose? Not too visible. The same like with two other flavours from this range, Coconut 21% Protein and Hazelnut 25% Protein. To find it out you’ll have to turn it over and find it in the small print. And then you’ll see it’s a ‘bar with carbohydrates and protein’. Great, you bastards.
To be honest, it’s nothing to be irritated about, as this bar is overall mediocre anyway. Hehe. It starts with an OK smell, including that indifferent bitterish aroma (which makes us subtracting 0.5 pts in the ‘smell’ criterion). There’s a bit of white chocolate in it, but at the same time, there’s none of strawberry or vanilla whiff in it. That’s being said, this bar is nothing you’d go for by its aroma itself. This bar isn’t too tough outside, being a bit more softish inside. But it’s very chewy and it tries to stick to your teeth heavily.
What’s even more, it’s pretty dryish, requiring you to sip pretty often while eating it. It’s not a recipe for success, definitely.
The same goes for its taste. Ok, there’s an easily detectable white chocolate flavour in it. But both, strawberry and vanilla, are pretty far from being easily detectable and rich in taste. Also, there’s some noticeable bitterish aftertaste too. But it doesn’t change the overall impression of being slightly too sweet, without an enjoyable theme tastes. It’s basically sweet, but not satisfying barely-protein snack. And no, we are not surprised about it at all, since it’s from Weider.
Do we want another serving after the first one? Not at all. Period.
How about macros? Well, still there’s a lot to do in this matter. A little, 35g bar, delivers just 150 kcal, 5.7g of fat, 20g of carbs (including a rather biggish 14g of sugar) and an embarrassing 4.6g of protein. Not impressive. The same as the ingredients list, including palm fat in it.
Can it be a sustainable what-bar-am-I on the go? Palm fat and everything is clear here. So no.
A mediocre what-bar-am-I from Weider. No surprise.
No, we are not paid by competitors (yet :-P), but it seems like Weider does it on purpose. Their functional bars are often pretty mediocre when it comes to many factors. And this one is no other. Nearly without a smell, not too easy to eat, with a flat taste, dryish, with poor ingredients… Well, that’s not what we’d like to have in a sweet treat, right? That’s why we think it’s just a mediocre bar. Nothing more.
Will we ever go back to that bar? We could, but there’s nothing to come back to. And nothing to miss, really.
