This is a slightly healthier version of the Bounty chocolate bar. And if you’re crazy about coconut, then you can’t miss it.
Love it or hate it. These are the only options when it comes to coconut. Some people say it tastes like a soap block. And I guess that’s may be the reason it has a great and devoted group of 8 fans in the whole UK. But I don’t agree with that. I believe coconut is a great (but not easy to work with) ingredient and I could taste that soap-like flavour with no end. That’s why I love Bounty chocolate bars so much (but I nearly hate its flapjack version)! And that’s why I liked this energy-protein bar as well. Sort of.
Weider 21% Protein Coconut bar has a beautiful and intense scent. It’s not actually too difficult to achieve it, as this aroma is capable of grabbing all the smell spectrum of nearly anything. Anyway, this pretty soft bar is undoubtedly inviting. It’s also just slightly chewy and barely sticking to the teeth. Also, it has a coconutish texture. However, it’s not too dry, so you won’t need a sip while eating it. In a word – it’s pretty comfortable to eat.
When it comes to its flavour, there’s a lovely aroma of coconut in it. And a bit of milk chocolate coating too.
They’re both easily detectable. Also, they’re pleasantly and pretty well balanced. The bar itself is sweet, but not oversweet, making it satisfying. At least as long as you love coconut flavour. The overall experience is something like you’d eat a slightly dryish Bounty bar. It’s not too bad in this departmen after all, but a bit of moistness would make it even more delicious.
Do I want another serving after the first one? This is the first bar for a while I can say about ‘I want it more!’. Its light weight of only 35g may be the reason for that, but still…
Let’s have a look at its macros, as they could be much better. A tiny 35g bar has only 161 kcal, 7.7g of fat, 15g of carbs (including a largish 11g of sugar) and only 7.4g of protein. Well, it’s nothing impressing definitely. The same regards to the ingredients list. It contains palm fat, glucose syrup and fructose syrup…
Can it be a sustainable energy+protein bar on the go? Unfortunately not, considering its macros and ingredients.
A slightly healthier, but also somewhat dryish Bounty bar. For a much higher price.
Weider 21% Protein Coconut bar is a pretty nice bar. At least when you consider it a functional one. It smells beautiful, it’s easy to eat and it tastes lovely. But it’s a bit more dryish than the Bounty chocolate bar. And a bit more expensive than it. And, well, that’s it.
Will I ever go back to this carbs+protein bar? This is a somewhat healthier version of the Bounty chocolate bar, so there are chances for that. However, not that because it’s super healthy (look at the ingredients list), but to soothe my mind that it’s not that not-so-healthy Bounty bar.
