This is another newcomer to the protein bar market. It’s natural, it’s hazelnut(ty), it’s comfortable to eat, but it has only 10g of protein. Hence it’s barely functional. Sorry, mate.
VIVE is a pretty new brand on the market. They promise ‘blah blah blah natural protein products’ and ‘blah blah blah products that taste great and look amazing’. So as I saw their ad on Instagram, I just clicked ORDER straight away. And the first natural protein snack from the three flavours range we’ve reviewed, Salted Caramel coated in Dark Belgian Chocolate, was pretty nice. Not spectacular, but solidly good and satisfyingly sweet. Therefore, now it’s time to have a closer look at another taste from this range, Hazelnut flavour, coated in Belgian Dark Chocolate of course.
The first thing you’ll detect while sniffing this snack is hazelnut and chocolate scent. It’s not too intensive, but easily detectable. There’s also some pea protein aroma here. And when it comes to the latter, people are divided into two groups. One of them like pea protein, others do not at all (like me). And there’s no other option. Well, it doesn’t affect that bar’s whiff, but it’s hard to miss it. Anyway, the bar itself is pretty soft outside and lovely delicate inside. As a consequence, it shouldn’t be troublesome for anybody in a matter of biting into it or chewing. A barely chewy bar also hardly sticks to the teeth. So you won’t need any sip to wash these hazelnuts down. That’s nice.
By way of contrast, the taste of this protein snack is not too impressing.
Pea protein plays first fiddle, leaving nearly no spectrum for other flavours. As a result of that, adorable crunchy hazelnuts are only lightly detectable, not to mention Belgian dark chocolate coating. In other words, aroma composition is pretty weak here. And it’s not too pleasant, also being a bit disappointing. Oh, there is also a few protein crisps in this bar, but they just get lost in all that mess. Too bad.
Is one VIVE Hazelnut bar enough for me? Should I ask for more? Unfortunately, not. I’m not a great fan o pea protein, and as a result of that I say ‘I’m OK, thank you, one serving is more than enough for me’.
The macros of this protein snack are a great deal to be desired. A 50g bar provides 227 kcal, a largish 14g of fat, reasonable 13g of carbs (including 10g of sugar) and only 10g of protein. Could be much better. On the ingredients
Can it be the finest protein bar on the go? Nope, considering
Hazelnut killed by pea protein. Similar to Belgian Dark Chocolate
VIVE Natural Protein Snack Bar hazelnut is kind of disappointment. It doesn’t smell too good, it doesn’t taste good at all (unless there’s pea protein running in your veins), it has average macros and ingredients. And there’s actually no distinctive feature that would catch my eyes. Oh, maybe except its ease of eating. But it still too little to impress anybody I guess.
Will I ever go back to this VIVE natural protein snack? Not actually. There’s nearly nothing special in this bar and… why do you even bother me with this average bar?
