TESCO nutri1st REBUILD Crunchy Caramel Vanilla Flavour High Protein Bar

Another protein bar for those on a tight budget. An oversweet option at a reasonable price. Great, if the sugar-blood level goes really low. And you want to get some extra proteins (and calories) too.

Buying a protein bar doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Supermarket branded protein snacks may be an option in this case. And we have already reviewed two of them, one from the same range, Cookies & Cream flavour. And another one from ASDA, Cherry and Yogurt Flavour. We rated it for 6.5/10 points that means ‘good’. And if you don’t mind its ingredients, it means good indeed. Anyway, now it’s time for another budget-friendly protein bar, this time from Tesco, Crunchy Caramel Vanilla flavoured.

This bar nearly doesn’t smell at all. The only thing you can spot is barely detectable sweetness. And it’s neither encouraging nor discouraging experience. We can, however, say something more about the surface of this bar. It’s covered with soy crisps and milk chocolate, making its shell pretty tough and quite demanding while biting and chewing. Because this bar is chewy and it tries to stick to your teeth. Other than that, it definitely requires having a bit of sip along, as it is…

It’s pretty sweet! No, wait, it’s absolutely sweet!

Pako has a sweet tooth and recently he eats loads of sweets too. And if he says it’s decently sweet, it must be like that. For sure. So it’s sweet and for some it may be oversweet too. Additionally, there’s caramel taste and only barely detectable vanilla. Both are cover by a general sweetness, leaving just a chunk of caramel aroma once you’ll eat the last bite. Eventually, it’s sweet and it does the job if you need loads of sweetness to make it till the end of the day.

It can sometimes crack from the underneath too…

So it’s sweet and for some, it may be oversweet too.

Do we want another serving after the first one? Not actually. The bar itself is not bad, but for us, it is way too sweet. And we guess it may be a real advantage for some, right?

However, when it comes to macros, there’s nothing you could consider as ‘advantage’. A 66g bar has a colossal 277 kcal, 9.9g of fat, 25.7g of carbs (including 14.5g of sugar) and 21.1g of protein. The ingredients list also doesn’t look too impressive, as there is a trio we really don’t like: added sugar, palm fat and glucose syrup. Well…

Can it be a sustainable protein bar on the go? Nope. And nope.

This is a really effective weapon to curb your sweet cravings

Tesco Nutri1st REBUILD Crunchy Caramel Vanilla Flavour Hight Protein Bar is a sweet protein bar. And we mean ,sweet indeed. And if this is what you’re after, then you just can’t pass it and definitely you should try it. Of course, its macros and ingredients are far from being acceptable, but hey – it’s only £1.30 per a full-size bar. And it looks like it costs as little for a reason. So if you’re on a budget and want a really sweet bar packed with extra protein (and calories), this is it.

However, if this is not your cup of tea, then… this is not your cup of tea. Period.

Will we ever go back to that protein bar? We don’t think so. It’s too sweet for us, and its macros go out of the roof a bit. Also, that ingredients list is nothing we will ever like.
