SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack

SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack

It tastes like a diluted Nutella spread. And that’s not bad. If only this SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack was ‘a bit’ more intense in its taste…

All right, this is pretty frustrating. Technically, SCI-MX Nutrition has three different brands for their protein snacks. They go like that: SCI-MX Nutrition Pro2Go (i.e. with its Choc Chip Protein Brownie), Pro2Go (i.e. with its Gooey Protein Bar Blueberry & White Choc) and… SCI-MX with this protein flapjack. As if all that weren’t enough, they are wrapped in three different packagings too. What a mess! And as Badasses don’t have a problem with it, I guess not everyone must be an expert in protein snacks. We wish SCI-MX Nutrition could tidy it up a bit.

This SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack is not spectacular when it comes to its smell. There are chocolate and hazelnut scents, but they’re barely, and I mean really barely detectable. Therefore, it’s hard to say it’s tempting or inviting. Anyway, this protein flapjack is not too comfortable to eat and this is not a surprise here. It’s toughish on the outside, being on a par with it on the inside. It’s also a bit thicky and dryish, so a sip or two may come in handy while eating it. Overall, it’s texture is… well… it hasn’t changed much over the last two years.

And when it comes to the taste of this snack, then it’s nothing exceptional too.

This SCI-MX protein flapjack tastes like a diluted Nutella spread.

There is a flavour of hazelnut and milk chocolate scarcely detectable. And it’s nothing you’d like to indulge yourself in. It literally screams for much more intensity. Other than that, there’s no oats aroma or any other weird touch. That’s good.

However, after one serving I’m OK with that and won’t go for another one definitely.

SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack

How about macros? It’s not too bad considering it’s a flapjack. An 80g treat has 276 kcal, 8g of fat, 35g of carbs and a substantial amount of 21g of protein. The ingredients list, however, contains palm fat (the same as Nutella spread). And it’s bad.

And only the latter is the reason this can’t be the finest protein flapjack on the go.

A diluted Nutella spread. In the form of a bar.

SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack

SCI-MX Chocolate & Hazelnut Protein Flapjack is one of its kind. It’s not too comfortable to eat, it tastes like a diluted Nutella spread and it’s a bit dryish. It doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it definitely could be much better in a couple of aspects. And this is my message to SCI-MX. Or SCI-MX Nutrition? Or Pro2Go? Whatever…

Will I ever go back to this protein flapjack? I don’t think so. It’s not bad, but it lacks this and that, here and there. I’m OK, thank you.
