Think Vegan, think bland taste. And from now it also should be ‘think PowerBar for vegans’. It’s not my fault this kind of food could be much tastier.
All rights, vegans. Relax. As a non-vegan person, I find myself difficult to find tasty snacks from this range. And that’s it. Don’t get me wrong (prove me wrong!). They’re not bad, like PowerBar Natural Energy Cereal Bar Strawberry & Cranberry flavour. But at the same time, they could be more appealing and inviting. Period. But why a non-vegan person would eat vegan food? I don’t know. Maybe because he is allowed to do that? Or he wants to try it? Or he wants to review it? Who knows?
Anyway, this Natural Energy Bar from PowerBar is nothing to be appetising. Seriously. It smells more like whole grain rolled oats than cereal. And that’s not bad. At least as long as vegan-anything makes your heart beat faster. Anyhow, there’s no cocoa scent virtually at all. Also, the bar is tough from the outside, but surprisingly softish inside. Therefore, it’s still not difficult to bite into it. A slightly chewy snack also sticks to the teeth a bit. But you can carry on even if you have no sip at hand. In that case, you will get out of it alive anyway.
So, after all that vegan moaning, what’s about the taste? Well, it’s not too bad after all.
There’s a bit of cocoa, but it’s bland and ’empty’. It’s ok, but it’s far from being sweet or satisfying. What’s more, rolled oats are not even detectable here. So if it’s something you don’t like, then no worries. And that’s it. There’s nothing more. To sum up, it’s pretty OK, but it definitely won’t make its way as a sweet or satisfying snack.
Am I fancy another serving of this PowerBar Cacao Crunch bar for vegan after the first one? I could if I wouldn’t mind that average taste. But I like enjoying sweets. But there’s not anything like that here.
From the macro point of view, this bar is… well… pretty OK too. A 40g bar delivers 156 kcal, 4.5g of fat, 25g of carbs and only 3.2g of protein. Nice one. However, on the ingredients list, there is palm oil, so it’s nothing to be proud of.
Is it a sustainable energy bar on the go? With that taste and palm oil on the ingredients list? I don’t think so.
A great energy bar for those who don’t need a great taste, excellent macros and top notch ingredients.
Does it sound silly? Not at all! Because sometimes you don’t need anything superb to do the job. Especially when you’re vegan. In this case, this is an OK bar and carry on, give it a try. However, if you’re not vegan, then…
