Last, but not least. But at the same time highly disappointing. This is another Protein Crisp Bar from Optimum Nutrition that is nothing special at all. And it’s not too surprising, honestly.
When Optimum Nutrition introduced their new Protein Crisp Bars, I was slightly excited. A real protein bars from THIS Optimum Nutrition (I don’t count Whipped Bites being on the market for a while). However, both other flavours from this range, Chocolate Brownie and Marshmallow, were just OK-ish. And this is not what we could expect from Optimum Nutrition, right? Well, it looks like that’s it what they can do in this matter, as another flavour from this range, Protein Crisp Bar Peanut Butter flavour, is not better than that. Well, it’s time to face the truth, Optimum Nutrition. And Optimum Nutrition fans.
The smell of this Crisp Protein Bar gives hope for a delicious bar. Its fragrance is rich and deep. It’s like a highly inviting composition of peanut butter and roasted peanuts. With a touch of sweetness. Nice! But then IT comes. The texture of this protein bar is not perfect. Although it’s somewhat soft on the inside, this bar is decently tough on the outside. This means some may feel it not too comfortable to bite into it. However, as it’s pretty softish on the inside, there should be no problem with eating it. All of that, because it’s only slightly chewy and barely sticky. And, what is pleasant in some way, it’s nicely and softly crispy. Oh, and it’s slightly dryish too.
A bit tasty, but not too much.
This Protein Crisp Bar tastes like Peanut Butter. Sort of. There’s a peanut butter flavour pretty easily detectable. And it goes along with a chocolate (or rather ‘dark chocolate flavour’) coating. Both are noticeable, pretty nicely balanced, but they are way too mild when it comes to their intensity. This combination of flavours is still pretty nice and middling sweet. However, there’s also a bitterish aroma added to that. And it spoils the overall taste of this bar. As a result of that, it’s not too sweet, not telling satisfying. And that’s the reason for such a low score in this department.
Do I want another serving of this Protein Crisp Bar after the first one? Not actually. I ate the entire bar and I didn’t feel any kind of excitement. So I’ll stick to one serving only. Sorry.
When it comes to macros, they’re actually pretty good. A single 65g bar delivers 215 kcal, 6.9g of fat, a pretty reasonable 16g of carbs (including
Palm oil in the ingredients list means it can’t be the finest protein bar on the go. But even without this particular ingredient, it’s still pretty far from getting this title,
Another protein bar from Optimum Nutrition. And another disappointment.
Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp Bar Peanut Butter Flavour is an average protein bar. Another from Optimum Nutrition. In one of the essential criteria, the taste, it’s just ‘fair’. And it could be more comfortable to eat. And this palm oil in the ingredients list. Well, this and that. Too many of these ‘buts’ considering it’s from a TOP brand. Or maybe it’s not a TOP brand anymore?
Will I ever go back to this Protein Crisp Bar? Not actually. It’s not too tasty. And it’s not too comfortable to eat. And these two reasons are good enough for me to walk away from this bar and don’t come back to it.
