Decently sweet, but not too tasty. This is how I’d describe this protein flapjack in a couple of words.
It looks like Oatein ‘can’t into chocolate flapjacks’. Another one from this range, Chocolate Peanut Butter flavour, turned out to be pretty miserable. It scored something like 5.4/10 pts, which means ‘it doesn’t matter at all’. And I’m afraid this one, Oatein Oats & Protein Flapjack Chocolate Cheap flavour is going to be pretty similar to it. And it’s strange, as chocolate-anything flavour should be the tastiest one out of all protein snacks.
This protein flapjack smells like oats. Or even like oats with an addition of fat. And, what’s was surprising for me as well, it’s not that bad scent after all. More surprising, however, is there’s no chocolate (chip) aroma in it virtually at all. Some may say there’s a sweetish whiff in it, but I wasn’t so sure about that. Anyway, a decently tough on the outside, this snack is somewhat softish on the inside. The thing is, it’s not too comfortable to bite into it and some may say its texture is generally toughish. A lightly chewy flapjack is just a bit sticky. And also a bit crumbly. So be prepared to have a sip while eating it.
Sweet, but not chocolate sweet.
The taste of this protein flapjack is somewhat strange. Firstly, you taste oats. Then, you taste… no, it’s not chocolate. It’s ‘chocolate flavour coating’. And after that, you realise there’s not much of chocolate chip flavour in its flapjack. It’s pretty sweet, but that sweetness is a bit strange. It’s not a sweetness you know from chocolate. It has more like ‘artificial’ sweetness, most likely coming from sweeteners. And it’s nothing pleasant. Anyway, this protein flapjack is relatively sweet, but it’s not satisfying. And last, but not least, there are no weird flavours or aromas in it.
Do I want another serving of this Oaten protein flapjack after the first one? Not actually. It was not too bad, but it’s still not enough to say ‘I want more’.
A quick look at macros of this flapjack and it’s clear it’s not the leanest one out there. A 75g flapjack has 310 kcal, 8.6g of fat, 37.7g of carbs (including only 8.5g of sugar) and a solid 18.7g of protein. The ingredients list is also nothing you’d like to know about, as there are sugar and palm oil.
As a result of that, it can’t be the finest protein flapjack on the go.
Pretty sweet, but not too tasty.
This Oatein Oats & Protein Flapjack Chocolate Chip Flavour is a fair one. It’s sweet, but not too tasty. It has not the best macros and inferior ingredients. And even if I wanted to say something more positive about it, it would be damn difficult to do that. So no, I won’t. And also…
Will I ever go back to this Oatein protein flapjack? Not actually. It’s pretty far from being a tasty one and this is not the only flaw here.
