This one should be called a double or even triple salted not-too-caramel cookie. Because it’s way too salty indeed. And there’s nothing worse than oversalted anything.
In general, cooking is much easier than baking. All of that, because once you put your dough into the oven, you can’t change it anymore. In contrast, while cooking, you can reasonably easily manipulate with taste till the very end. Even when the dish is already served. However, it doesn’t mean it’s too easy either. You can still sometime oversalt a dish you just prepared. And then you literally can’t do anything about that. However, as I can understand an under- or oversalted dish (just one more pinch of… oops!), I have never seen a machine made oversalted cookie. Until now.
Oatein Cookie Salted Caramel Flavour smells not too bad. There’s a bit of caramel scent, but it seems to be not enough of it. On the other hand, there’s no salt aroma at all. Instead of that, you can easily detect a bitter whiff over here. It’s weird. As it pretty often is with cookies, this one is soft both outside and inside. That means it’s easy to bite into it. However, it’s a bit chewy and slightly sticks to the teeth. Also, it’s a bit crispy in the mouth. And dryish too. So a sip or two may come in handy for some.
When I tasted it for the first time, I thought a pinch of salt left on my fingertip. But no, this cookie is sooo salty by itself.
There’s a bit of caramel taste, but it was nearly completely covered by the salt. And that’s it, nothing more. Therefore, you can’t expect any sweetness here. That makes this cookie doubtfully pleasant to eat. Unless your favourite spread is salt with a bit of butter, washing down with two gallons of sea water. Anyway, this cookie is not sweet at all and it won’t make its way as a sweet snack. And, as you can assume, it’s pretty far from being satisfying.
Do I want another serving after the first one? Well, a bag of salt and anything to that seems to be not worse than this, but definitely a much cheaper alternative.
When it comes to macros, these are huuuge! A 75g cookie has a whopping 297 kcal, 9.9g of fat, a solid 33.5g of carbs (and a massive 15.4g of sugar!) and a tiny 16.5g of protein. It could be a bit more of the latter, indeed. The ingredients list contains added sugar, palm fat and fructose-glucose syrup. Yummie! Not.
Is it a sustainable protein cookie on the go? LOL.
Through the salty tears.
As always, it could be not too bad cookie after all. But something went really wrong here. It has not enough caramel, too much of salt. And as a result of that, we’ve got an oversalted snack that should be… sweet? That’s funny. Anyway, instead of buying it you’d better off getting anything, like carrots or a piece of chocolate, dip it in a salt and… you’ll get pretty much the same. But much cheaper. Or something.
Will I ever go back to this protein cookie? No actually. It’s too salty, not too tasty. And not sweet at all.

OUR RATE: FAIR(ly not fair, as it seems too much for this cookie)
