This is one of the most original flavours packed into the protein bar. Lemon Meringue. And that’s great, as I like to taste new and exciting flavours. No matter how good or bad they are.
MyProtein 6 Layer Bar Lemon Meringue Protein Bar is another snack that let us have the flavour of our favourite cakes in our pocket. Without the risk of smashing it or make it not comfortable either to look at or to eat. The other ones I reviewed and I liked it was Oatein Oats & Protein Flapjack Strawberry Cheesecake and Veloforte CLASSIC Citrus Energy Bar. Now, we have an opportunity to have a Lemon Meringue cake always with ourselves. Is it going to be worth it at all?
It’s not as simple to say it straight away, as this protein bar is nearly odourless. The lemon meringue scent is barely, and I mean scarcely detectable here. Hence, not much excitement here as it’s pretty far from being inviting. What’s really nice, however, this bar is nicely soft on both outside and inside. Therefore, forget about any problems with biting into it or chewing. A just slightly chewy snack only barely sticks to the teeth. In other words, it’s comfortable to eat.
When it comes to the taste of it, there’s the same story as with Birthday Cake flavour and Cookies & Cream flavour from this range.
There’s a bit of Maringue flavour and it’s pretty tasty, but it lacks its intensity. Soy protein nuggets make it nicely crunchy. And meringue pieces make it pleasantly sweet, but not too sweet. And everything would be OK here, but there’s also a bitterish aftertaste. It’s not too intense and it doesn’t do any significant damage to the taste, but it’s there. To sum up, this bar is pleasantly sweet, but it might be not satisfyingly sweet for many.
Do I want another serving after the first one? Not that much. It was pretty good and pleasantly sweet, but not as much to grab another helping straight away after the first one.
In the matter of macros, there’s nothing excited here. A 70g bar has a largish 257 kcal, 9.1g of fat, 18.2g of carbs (including only 3.5g of sugar) and a solid 20.5g of protein. The ingredients list contains added sugar and palm oil, so it could be better in this department after all.
Can it be a sustainable protein bar on the go? With added sugar and palm fat, there’s no chance for that.
Not only for Lemon meringue lovers.
MyProtein 6 Layer Bar Lemon Meringue Protein Bar is not a bad option not only for Lemon Meringue lovers. It’s easy to eat, it tastes pretty nice and overall it’s pretty OK. It’s not perfect in a couple of aspects, for sure. But considering the rarity of this flavour, I could turn a blind eye to it. In a word – it’s not perfect, but it’s worth giving it a try.
Will I ever go back to this protein bar? Not that I’ll do that on purpose. But if one day I will find it somewhere, then why not? It’s not perfect, but this flavour in the form of a protein bar is so rare it’s worth to come back to it now and then.
