A protein bar with benefits. And a classic, salted caramel flavour. And with a bit of chocolate. It should be fulfilling then, but it’s not. What a sad story.
With their many different flavours and distinctive branding, Fulfil bars are the ones that are hard to miss. Especially, they’re now available nearly everywhere. Chocolate Salted Caramel flavour, along with Chocolate Hazelnut Whip, is the latest one from the range. So I couldn’t let them wait for too long. So here it is.
Fulfil protein bars are not the most aromatic ones out there. And this one is no different. It smells all right, chocolate and salted caramel are easily detectable. But it could be ‘a bit’ more intense. It’s not bad, but it’s not appealing or inviting. Pretty tough on the outside, is somewhat softish inside. It’s not difficult to bite into it, on a par with chewing. However, it’s a bit chewy and slightly sticks to the teeth. And as the reason for that, it’s worth to have a sip by hand while eating it.
Going further, knowing Fulfil bars I expected at least an excellent taste. However, I didn’t get it here.
Although there are easily detectable chocolate and salted caramel flavours, there’s also a bitter aftertaste. In other words, we’ve got a composition of sweetness, saltiness and… bitterness. And as another manufacturer already tried to do something similar, it didn’t work here either. Although this bar is somewhat sweet, it’s far from being satisfying or fulfilling.
Therefore one serving is enough for me.
If you’re all about macros, for a change, you wouldn’t be disappointed here. A 55g bar has only 197 kcal, 8.4g of fat, reasonable 15g of carbs (of which only 1.7g of sugar) and a rounded 20g of protein. And that’s nothing new when it comes to Fulfil bars. However, I can’t still turn a blind eye to added sugar and palm oil in the ingredients lists. Thumb down for that then.
Can it be considered a sustainable protein bar on the go? With added sugar and palm oil on the ingredients list, there’s no chance for that.
The Fulfil bar that is not fulfilling.
Fulfil bars used to be sweet, satisfying and fulfilling. But this one is not like that. It’s sweet, but it’s also bitterish. Therefore, not too satisfying. And even if you’re all about macros, it still might be not enough to attract you to this protein bar. To make it clear, it’s not bad, but it’s still below what Fulfil is capable of. Like it did with Chocolate Orange flavour for example.
Will I ever go back to this protein bar? I don’t think so. I ate it a couple of days before the review, and then I did the same to review it. And my feelings toward this bar are the same. And they go more or less like that: it’s not that bad, but it could be much, much better than it is.
