No added sugar. But with a load of sweeteners that ruin the taste. This is a protein bar I won’t come back to for sure.
There are not many protein bars I can say about ‘I won’t come back to it’ straight away. However, this one (and not only this one) is like that. Although White Chocolate Almond sounds like an excellent composition of taste and the bar that could be your next go-to bar when it comes to the white chocolate protein bar, it’s not like that. And this is why. This is Barebells White Chocolate Almond protein bar.
This protein bar smells fantastic. White chocolate and almond flavours are easily detectable. They’re intense and inviting. And the only thing that stopped me from ordering more of it was thought ‘hey mate, calm down, relax, start breathing, let’s have a closer look at that’. And my
experience inner voice was right (I’ll get back to this in a moment). This bar is pretty soft on the outside but slightly toughish on the inside. That means it’s not too comfortable to bite into it. And chances are you may need to use your teeth a bit to bite into it. A somewhat chewy bar is only barely sticky. So some may need a sip while eating it. However, it’s not too uncomfortable to eat after all.
Sweetener, sweetener everywhere.
I’m sure you know that specific taste of sweetener. In theory, it’s sweet. But at the same time, it’s slightly bitterish too. And that’s what we’ve got here. This protein bar tastes pretty good. White chocolate and almond flavours are easily detectable. And at the beginning, they seem really tasty. However, there’s also ‘a bit’ of that specific flavour of sweetener detectable. And it’s pretty strong. Eventually, it’s so intense it eclipses the main flavour pretty strong, making this bar not too tasty after all. And although this Barebells bar is sweet, thanks to that sweeteners flavour it’s also bitterish. Therefore, it’s not satisfying at all.
Do I want another serving of this Barebells protein bar after the first one? No way! I’d say one serving is more than enough for me. And there’s another almond flavoured bar that also is not too exciting. Coincidence? Nevermind.
When it comes to macros of this protein bar, it’s pretty good. A 55g has only 205 kcal, 8.7g of fat, 15g of carbs (including 1.6g of sugar) and 20g of protein. Not too bad. However, the ingredients list contains palm oil and acesulfame K. And as palm oil is nothing unusual here (many protein bars have it in their ingredients), it’s something new there’s acesulfame K in it too. Why so?
As generally, sweeteners are not that bad and not harmful to the human body. However, there are some concerns regarding the safety of acesulfame K (also known as acesulfame potassium). Although the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its general use, critics say acesulfame potassium has not been studied adequately and may be carcinogenic. On the other hand, these claims have been dismissed by the European Food Safety Authority and FDA.
Considering only the palm oil and acesulfame K in the ingredients, this protein bar can’t be the finest protein bar on the go.
Not the best protein bar. With even more doubts.
Barebells White Chocolate Almond is nothing worth
Will I ever go back to this energy bar? I won’t. And considering it contains acesulfame K, not only I won’t come back to it. I also don’t recommend you to try it. Or it.

OUR RATE: FAIR
It’s nothing worth recommendation. Although it tastes lovely, it doesn’t smell even half that good. It’s somewhat OK when it comes to ease of eating, but it also has not the best ingredients. And good macros won’t change my opinion about it much.
