Our sample of this protein bar looked like a sad Birthday Cake. Its cover just flew down and it didn’t look like Happy Birthday (Cake). Unfortunately, its flavour wasn’t exceedingly exciting. And not too indulging as well.
This is another Indulgence protein bar from Applied Nutrition we review. And as we didn’t have too much
Anyway, let’s forget about the sad appearance of this protein bar. This protein bar smells like a sweetish cake. It’s not too intense, but it’s somehow pleasant. A pretty softish on the outside, this bar is crumbly and a bit more soft on the inside. That means you shouldn’t have any problem with biting into it. Also, it’s not too chewy, but it’s a bit sticky, though. Also, it could be a bit more moisty, as it’s slightly dryish indeed. Overall, it’s not too bad when it comes to its texture. But at the same time, it’s pretty far behind when it comes to top protein bars, like this one. Or this one.
Like a Birthday Cake. But not too much.
This Indulgence protein bar tastes the same as it smells. Like a sweet cake. And although its flavour is Birthday Cake, it’s not actually like that. OK, it’s decently sweet (or rather its top coating), but that’s the only thing it has in common with Birthday Cake. Some may say it resembles that famous cake, but again, there are much better Birthday Cake flavoured protein bar on the market. And if you want to grab some kind of benchmark for this flavour, then go straight for this one.
All right. I ate the entire bar and the question is: do I want another serving of this Indulgence Birthday Cake flavour protein bar? Well, not actually. It wasn’t so bad at all. But as I said before, there are many better options for this flavour out there.
Looking at the macros, you may be surprised how accurate numbers you can find there. A single 50g bar contains 199 kcal, 9.06g of fat, 17.97g of carbs (of which 2.44g of sugar) and 15.06g of protein. That’s interesting, considering there’s no option to calculate the exact amount of nutrients in any food. Anyway, the ingredients list could be a bit better, as it contains added sugar and palm fat.
Just two bad ingredients. But these two are just too many to call it the finest protein bar on the go.
Nothing to celebrate here.
Applied Nutrition Protein Indulgence Birthday Cake Flavour High Protein Low Sugar Bar. Phew, a pretty long name. But it doesn’t mean anything here, as this bar is a pretty average one. Just look at its marks – in nearly all categories it scored 6 pts, except the ingredient. What does it mean in reality? It’s good. And only good. And this is not enough to play any significant role in the protein bar market. Sorry.
Will I ever go back to this Indulgence Birthday Cake Flavour protein bar? No chances for that. If I had to celebrate any birthday like this, I’d prefer not to celebrate it at all.
