A Strawberry flavoured bar without strawberry anything in the ingredients list? It looks like someone wants to discourage us from this bar. But to no avail. We’ll go through it for you and if we don’t like it, you’ll know about it. So now you know it: we don’t like it. Officially.
By the way, it’s not a ‘protein bar’ per se. At least not looking at its packaging. It’s a ‘protein snack’, whatever it means. But considering it’s in the form of a bar, we guess it’s a protein bar indeed. Or supposed to be. All right, let’s get through it quickly. As quickly as we wanted to gulp it and have this review done.
It’s highly misleading, but this bar smells lovely. There’s an easily detectable sweet aroma of sweet strawberry. It makes us want to bite into it straight away. And there won’t be any problem with that. The bar is somewhat softish on the outside, also being nicely soft inside. It’s also not chewy at all, but tries to stick to your teeth annoyingly. Also, it’s slightly dryish, so you’d better have something to drink while eating it.
So it started not too bad. However, now the things go pretty weird though.
This bar is pretty sweet, with a nicely detectable strawberry taste in it. Yet, this taste seems to be somewhat flat, bland, an artificial one. It lacks its richness, seeming to be there only on the surface of the bar. It leaves us with a feeling of ’empty’ taste. It’s nothing to be satisfying at all, despite the milk chocolate being present here too. And that gritty texture, that isn’t necessary here.
Do we want another serving after the first one? Definitely not. Although it smells pretty nice, it’s nothing to be desirable after all.
Or maybe macros are worth to have a look at? Well, it depends. If 134 kcal per 35g is something you’re interested in, then carry on. There’s also 4.5g of fat, 11g of carbs (with 9.4g of sugar) and a modest 10.6g of protein. Does a protein snack with more carbs than protein sounds good to you? We don’t think so. The same as pretty short ingredients list, containing added sugar, glucose syrup and fructose syrup. Well…
Can it be considered as a protein snack on the go? Not at all. Added sugar and these syrups are nothing to be sustainable.
A protein snack that is far from being a protein one
Although it scored not bad at all 5.7/10 pts, it’s still far from being anything desirable. Not bad smell, but poor ingredients and taste that is a lot to be desired here. And unsatisfying overall expression. Yep, it always could be worse, but it’s not any kind of consolation here.
Will we ever go back to this protein snack/bar? Eh, what a question. We won’t. And we won’t spend even a penny for it again. How about having it for free? Still, no, thank you. And even the one with my favourite flavour, coconut one, won’t change it.
